• Was an all-state selection in basketball and was a member of the state title team his junior year.

• Father, Alced was airlifted after being rescued from a rooftop via helicopter in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
• Established the “Patrick Surtain Foundation” to help promote literacy.
• Participated in relief efforts in his hometown of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and provided game tickets for hurricane victims who relocated to Kansas City.
