Kansas City Defeats Philadelphia, 27-20, in Home Opener

The Chiefs scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to remain unbeaten on Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) defeated the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1), 27-20, to remain unbeaten on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium.

With the game tied at 13 points apiece midway through the fourth quarter, Chiefs' quarterback Alex Smith found tight end Travis Kelce from 15 yards out for the go-ahead touchdown. Kelce hurtled a pair of defenders into the end zone for the score.

Kelce's go-ahead touchdown was set up by Kansas City's second takeaway of the afternoon.

Facing a third down deep in his own territory, Eagles' quarterback Carson Wentz had his pass deflected by linebacker Justin Houston and intercepted by defensive tackle Chris Jones. It was the first interception of Jones' career.

Rookie running back Kareem Hunt extended Kansas City's lead late in the quarter with a 2-yard touchdown to secure the victory.

The Eagles had a chance in the closing seconds of the game after recovering an onside kick, but Wentz's pass to the end zone fell incomplete as time expired.

Hunt, whose 246 yards from scrimmage last week marked the most ever in a player's debut, also scored Kansas City's first touchdown of the game with a 53-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

The rookie finished with 81 yards on 13 carries and three catches for 28 yards.

Smith completed 21 of 28 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown. Kelce hauled in a team-leading eight catches for 103 yards.

Kicker Cairo Santos added two field goals for the Chiefs. Santos' second kick, a 39-yarder in the closing seconds of the first half, was set up when long snapper James Winchester forced Eagles' return man Darren Sproles to fumble on a punt return. Fullback Anthony Sherman recovered the fumble, leading to Santos' field goal.

The Chiefs' defense recorded 6.0 sacks on the afternoon, with Jones tallying 3.0 by himself.

The Chiefs will look to continue their winning ways next week as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers.
