Q&A with Charlie Weis 10/22

Posted Oct 22, 2010

Q: Was last week the best performance from your quarterback this year?

WEIS: “We’re just making progress and that’s what we’re trying to do each week, we’re just trying to make progress. He played better, but he had a lot of help and a lot of guys made plays and that’s the way it is in the passing game – it’s never all on one person – but we made progress last week.”

Q: When you talk about making progress, what should the fans look for in the quarterback? What are you looking for from QB Matt Cassel? And what should the fans look for to know that you’re making progress?

WEIS: “With the quarterback position, it always starts with managing the team and putting us in the right position and then it comes down to making plays. Anyone can see, it’s not just me, anyone can see when you’re in a game that when you have an opportunity and things present themselves you have to go ahead and make plays. Unfortunately, we just didn’t make enough of them last week and we ended up losing.”

Q: RB Jamaal Charles is leading the NFL in yards per carry and RB Thomas Jones is doing a good job, as well. How much easier does it make your job and maybe how much more boring make your job?

WEIS: “You know, from (Head Coach) Todd (Haley) to (assistant head coach) Mo (Maurice Carthon) to me to all of our staff, we have a lot of confidence and it’s good to know that you have multiple choices when it comes to the running game. I think that too many times you’re in a position where you’ve got to hold your breath and we think that we have very good quality at that position.”
