POSTGAME NOTES: CHIEFS AT RAMS (8/18)
Governor’s Cup: Saturday’s matchup marked the 44th game in the Governor’s Cup series in which Kansas City took on St. Louis’ NFL franchise.
Against the St. Louis Rams (1996-present), the Chiefs are 10-9 overall and are 5-9 in preseason action. In the regular season, the Chiefs are 5-0 against the Rams.
Against the St. Louis Cardinals (1968-87), the Chiefs hold a 16-7-2 overall record. The Chiefs were 2-1-1 in the regular season and were 14-6-1 in preseason meetings against the Cardinals.
Rookie Impact: Rookie DT Dontari Poe
recorded a pass defensed; Rookie WR Devon Wylie recorded one kick return for 22 yards; Rookie DBs Tysyn Hartman and Terrance Parks finished tied for third on the team with three solo tackles each.
QB Matt Cassel: 13-of-18, 142 yards, 95.1 QB rating. Cassel is 18-of-24 for 209 yards with one TD and no INTs in two preseason contests.
Boss’ Night: TE Kevin Boss recorded four receptions for 62 yards (15.5 avg.) to lead all Chiefs receivers in the contest. This is the second preseason contest in which a TE has led the team in receiving (TE Steve Maneri, three receptions for 69 yards for a 23.0 avg. vs. Arizona on Aug. 10.)
Punting: P Dustin Colquitt registered a preseason-long 60-yard punt in the third quarter. He punted four times for 209 yards (52.2 avg.) with two inside the 20.
Longest Scoring Drive: The Chiefs recorded a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive in the second quarter, marking the team’s longest scoring drive of the preseason.
Succop’s Preseason Start: K Ryan Succop was one-for-one on field goals, converting a 44-yard FG against the Rams, making him a perfect three-for-three (22, 24 and 44 yards) in the preseason.
