After practice this week Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach, Gary Gibbs spoke with the media.
Q: What’s the stamp of a Gary Gibbs defense? How are we going to know that you’re the coordinator?
GIBBS: “This isn’t about any individual. This is about our defense trying to play better than we have the last couple weeks, and our players and coaches alike know that we’ve got a big challenge, but it’s a big stage, so this isn’t about somebody trying to put a stamp on anything. This is about our guys going out there and playing well and us trying to coach them well.”
Q: It’s never easy becoming a coordinator mid-stream like this, but is it a little easier for you since you’ve been a coordinator before?
GIBBS: “I’m just glad that we’ve got some players who want to go out there and compete. This isn’t about me, this isn’t about the position I’m quote holding right now. This is about all of us. We’ve got a good defensive staff. We work well together. Everybody has input. We put the plan together and that’s they’re focus.”
Q: How has ![]()
GIBBS: “I think he’s had a good week. As you guys know, playing Monday night, there’s a lot of energy. It’s a big stage. I think having a game under his belt is a positive and I think he’s got a little more confidence coming into this week, and I think he’s had a good week.”
Q: What have you been emphasizing this week to your defense against the Steelers offense?
GIBBS: “All of us are emphasizing we’ve got to make sure we don’t let them just run through us. We’ve got to do a good job technique-wise, we’ve got to be good tackles as far as their running game, that’s obvious, and then you’ve got to contend with their speed. Their speed at wide receiver is prevalent, so we’ve got to do a good job as far as playing fast, taking good angles and playing good team defense.”
