Its official: Thomas Jones is a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The leading rusher from the league’s best rushing offense will pair with
Jones provides immediate assistance for Charles, who saw his backups receive only 42 carries once he became Kansas City’s starter. At various points towards the end of 2009, Charles was returning kicks while logging over 20-25 offensive touches per contest. His workload was extensive.
Depth concerns at the tailback position ultimately had Charles going full-throttle at all times, pausing only to occasionally push his loose shoulder back into place (which has been corrected with offseason surgery). With Jones in place, a powerful runner who can eat up carries between the tackles, Kansas City fans no longer need to keep their fingers crossed fingers with each additional touch Charles receives late in games.
At age 31, Jones is coming off the most productive season of his career. He rushed for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 4.2 yards per carry. Charles averaged an eye-popping 5.9 yards per carry.
