Posted Apr 5, 2013

We spotlight "Mr. Tenacity" of the Texas Longhorns

The 2013 NFL Draft Spotlight series continues, as we preview one pro prospect per day, right up until the start of the draft, April 25-27. However, none of the reports in this series are indicative of who the Kansas City Chiefs plan to draft, with any of their currently-owned eight picks.

Day 13 of 32

Kenny Vaccaro is a talented and confident football player, driven to be one of the first safeties to come off the board in the upcoming draft.

One of the bright spots for Texas, Vaccaro finished 2012 with 107-solo tackles, two INTs and five pass breakups.

He also performed for scouts, general managers and coaches at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.

Combine results: Best in his group*

40-yard dash (4.63)
Vertical Jump (38.0 in.)
Broad Jump (121.0 in.)
3-cone drill (6.78 sec)
20-yard shuttle (4.06 sec) *
225-lb Bench Press (15 reps)

What else should you know about Kenny?

* Started at free safety for every one of the Longhorns 13 games in 2012

* Led the team in tackles (107), third in PBUs (5) and tied for second in forced fumbles (2)

* 264-career tackles topped the active Texas players at season's end (2012)

STRENGTHS:

Vaccaro has shown to be strong off the edge as a blitzer and gets physical with running backs. His ability to change direction allows him to play the half-field in Cover Two.

"He is fluid in coverage, can drop down over slot receivers, and is physical and aggressive in run support," according to ESPN NFL Insider Todd McShay.

"All that makes him a safe pick, despite that 40 time. I've seen enough on tape to believe Vaccaro can be a top-tier starter in the NFL."

QUESTIONS:

"(Vaccaro) Can get out of control in his aggression toward the line of scrimmage," according to NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang.

"Will duck his head in his attempt to make the big hit and leave cut-back lanes for patient, explosive runners to take full advantage. Must do a better job of wrapping up, rather than leading with his shoulder."
