Chiefs and KFC Continue Support of First Downs for Down Syndrome

Posted Dec 5, 2011

Members of the Chiefs Community Caring Team will once again visit a local KFC in advance of a special fundraiser benefitting First Downs for Down Syndrome (FDDS). The appearance will take place at the Raytown KFC (9924 E State Route 350, Raytown, MO 64133-6519) this Tuesday, Dec. 6 from Noon (12 p.m.) – 1 p.m. Together, representatives of the offensive line and cheerleaders will sign autographs, pose for photos and remind KFC patrons of a special promotion taking place one final Friday this season.

Fans can join the Chiefs Community Caring Team by purchasing eight pieces of the Colonel’s famous chicken (any style). Not only will fans get an additional eight pieces of chicken for free, but one dollar of the purchase will go to benefit First Downs for Down Syndrome. This special offer is available exclusively on Friday, Dec. 9.

FDDS is the Chiefs offensive linemen’s charity of choice. Since its inception in 1992, FDDS has raised over $5.1 million thanks to this partnership. Those funds support two local organizations: the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City – which provides education and support to individuals with Down syndrome and their families; and the Down Syndrome Clinic at Children’s Mercy Hospital – a clinic that addresses the medical and therapeutic needs of children with Down syndrome from birth through adolescence.

This is another example of the Kansas City Chiefs commitment to playing an active role in our community. The Hunt Family has made corporate citizenship and charitable giving a priority for the Chiefs. Those efforts focus on organizations and programs which improve the civic and cultural climate in our region, support families and children in crisis, improve health and wellness among children as well as preserve the legacy and history of the game of football. One way the organization supports these efforts is through Chiefs Community Caring Team visits.

An eight-year partner of FDDS, KFC is part of Yum! Brands, Inc. That group comprises the world's largest restaurant company in terms of system restaurants, with more than 36,000 locations around the world. KFC operates more than 5,200 restaurants in the United States and more than 15,000 units around the world.
