Team adds speed and depth at WR

Donnie Avery caught passes for Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck last season; he'll now be running routes for the Kansas City Chiefs and their new QB Alex Smith, the team announced today.

Avery has played in 55 games (43 starts) in four NFL seasons, with the Indianapolis Colts (2012), Tennessee Titans (2011) and St. Louis Rams (2008-09). His career numbers include 163 receptions for 2,089 yards and 12 TDs.

The deep-threat wideout can also carry the pigskin when called upon; he's rushed 18 times for 108 yards and a score.

2012 was the best statistical season for Avery, who caught 60 passes for 781 yards and three TDs.

The Houston, Texas native, Avery originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick (33rd overall) of the St. Louis Rams in the 2008 NFL Draft. He attended the University of Houston, totaling 210-career receptions for 3,289 yards. He prepped at Hastings High School in Alief, Texas.
