Chiefs Sign Free Agent OL Hutch Eckerson

Posted Aug 8, 2013

Team signs the former Saints lineman one day before its preseason opener

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent offensive lineman Hutch Eckerson, the team announced Thursday.

Eckerson (6-6, 310) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2011. He was released by San Diego prior to the start of the regular season, then signed by New Orleans on May 14, 2012.

Eckerson was released by the Saints during preseason play and then joined the Bills for his most recent NFL stint on Feb. 14, 2013.

The Lumberton, N.C., native played collegiately at South Carolina where he saw action in 23 games at both tackle positions.

He was a college teammate of current Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop. Eckerson was an all-conference offensive lineman at Lumberton High School.

Prior to signing Eckerson, who will wear jersey #64, the Chiefs waived OL Dustin Waldron.
