Chiefs Rookie Club Plays Santa at The Children’s Place

Posted Dec 19, 2011

In their final appearance of the 2011 season, the Chiefs Rookie Club donned Santa hats and got ready for the upcoming holidays by visiting with some very special youth at The Children’s Place. Together, the rookies distributed gifts, including plush animals and footballs, to approximately 50 children. Then, they answered questions and partook in sing-a-longs at the center.

“Today was a great experience for all of us,” noted FB Shane Bannon. “We really had a great time in the classrooms interacting with these kids. Their eyes got so big when we opened our bags and started handing out holiday gifts to them all. You could see how much it meant to them that we took time out of our day to visit with them. As much as they all enjoyed their gifts, I think they had the most fun just hanging out with us.”

This is another example of the Kansas City Chiefs commitment to playing an active role in our community. The Hunt Family has made corporate citizenship and charitable giving a priority for the Chiefs. Those efforts focus on organizations and programs which improve the civic and cultural climate in our region, support families and children in crisis, improve health and wellness among children as well as preserve the legacy and history of the game of football. One way the organization supports these efforts is through Chiefs Community Caring Team visits.

The Chiefs Rookie Club was the first of its type, but has now become commonplace throughout the NFL. In its 12 years of existence, the Rookie Club has helped introduce players in their initial NFL season to community organizations around Kansas City in a group setting.

The Children’s Place is a non-profit agency that helps heal the youngest survivors of abuse, neglect and trauma. Serving the community for over 30 years, The Children’s Place is the leader in evidence-based therapy and treatment.

Operating three main programs: Day Treatment, Clinical Services and Parent Support Services; The Children’s Place works to help every child overcome any developmental delays and regain a happy and healthy childhood. The children served by The Children’s Place are aged 8 years and under and are most the vulnerable in our community.
