Chiefs Activate Mays from IR; Waive Franklin

The Chiefs announced that LB Joe Mays has been activated and LB Jerry Franklin has been waived

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has activated linebacker Joe Mays from injured reserve and waived linebacker Jerry Franklin.

Mays (5-11, 244) has seen action in 61 contests (35 starts) in six NFL seasons with the Houston Texans (2013), Denver Broncos (2010-12) and Philadelphia Eagles (2008-09). He joined Kansas City as a free agent on March 12, 2014 and was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return on Sept. 2, 2014. His career numbers include 194 tackles (141 solo), 18 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks (-10.5 yards), six passes defensed and one forced fumble. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (200th overall) of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 NFL Draft. Mays played collegiately at North Dakota State and prepped at Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Ill.

Franklin (6-1, 245)has seen action in 20 games in three NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (2014) and Chicago Bears (2012-13). He has served primarily on special teams, recording 11 career tackles. Franklin originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in 2012. He played collegiately at Arkansas and prepped at Marion High School in Marion, Arkansas.
