CHIEFS PREPARE NEW ARROWHEAD FOR AFC WILD CARD GAME

Posted Jan 6, 2011

Fans are asked to arrive prior to 10:30 a.m. to avoid peak times

Preparations for this weekend’s AFC Wild Card Game are underway at the New Arrowhead. Today, members of the Chiefs grounds crew painted the Wild Card Weekend logo on the field and tomorrow, the Chiefs store will begin stocking the Wild Card weekend merchandise. The game will mark the first home playoff game for the Chiefs since the 2003 season.

The Chiefs are expecting the largest crowd of the season and are encouraging fans to arrive early via bus and carpool. The heaviest traffic will be from 10:30 a.m until noon, so fans are asked to arrive prior to 10:30 to avoid peak times. Access to parking lots will begin at 8:30 a.m.

“Carpooling with friends is a great option to ensure you get into the lot quickly and are able to tailgate in the same location with friends,” said David Young, Vice President of Stadium Operations for the Chiefs, “Fans who arrive during those peak times risk not making it to their seats before kickoff.”

A new tool on the Chiefs website allows ticket holders to get personalized directions to each parking lot. The tool can be accessed at http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/directions.html. Kincaid coach offers shuttle service from park and ride locations around the metro: Details on the shuttle service can be found at https://www.kincaidcoach.com/chiefs-tickets/step-1.php.

The Chiefs team store, which has offered AFC West Division Championship merchandise since the Chiefs clinched the title, expects the Wildcard Weekend merchandise to begin arriving Friday. The store, located at the New Arrowhead Stadium, will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. today, tomorrow and Saturday.

Chiefs fans of all ages can show their team spirit this Friday, January 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 at the Official Chiefs Red Friday Playoff Rally presented by Miller Lite. From 6:30-7:15 p.m., Steven St. John and Nate Bukaty, from Sports Radio 810 WHB will join Chiefs Insider Josh Looney on stage and will welcome special guests including General Manager Scott Pioli at the Kansas City Power and Light District. Details about the Red Friday Playoff Rally can be found at kcchiefs.com.
