Chiefs CWO Feed Under-Served

Nov 18, 2009, 4:00:34 PM

cwocrThose eating lunch at Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Inc. had a special treat earlier this week. That’s because two dozen members of the Chiefs Women’s Organization (CWO) were on hand to help prepare and serve lunch at the center. As guests made their way through the service line, CWO members dished up a palate-pleasing lunch.

“From the bottom of our heart we are extremely grateful,” noted Theresa Swartwood, Director of Public Relations & Marketing for Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Inc. “The Chiefs come down here each and every time with their hearts on their sleeves. The faces on our lunch guest said it all. They just all got a special sparkle in their eye when they realized that the CWO was here today. It means the world to them to know that the Chiefs value them enough to take the time out and be here with them.”

This food service event was a precursor to a special pregame recognition prior to Sunday’s contest at Arrowhead Stadium against the Pittsburgh Steelers. At that time, the Chiefs will recognize five outstanding volunteers from Cross-Lines that daily make a difference in the lives of others. In all, the Chiefs are hosting a group of 100 individuals made up of Cross-Lines volunteers and their guests. This special Red and Gold game experience will thank these individuals for their dedication to uplifting others.

The CWO is an organization comprised of wives, fiancées, and significant others of Chiefs players, coaches and football support staff members. The mission of the organization is to build goodwill in the Kansas City community through active volunteer participation.

Cross-Lines was built on a simple idea - that poverty-borne problems could be answered best by looking to the community for solutions and working together to tackle them. In 1963, a group of concerned citizens joined together to improve the plight of the poor. Under their leadership, they created a legacy of programs that have positively impacted the lives of thousands of needy people.
