THE MATCH-UP
After enjoying a bye, Kansas City resumes its schedule with its fi rst trip to Jacksonville since 2004. After a 14-6 triumph at Washington (10/18), the Chiefs are seeking to record victories in consecutive road contests for the fi rst time since getting a 30-16 victory at San Diego (9/30/07) and a 12-10 win at Oakland (10/21/07). Kansas City’s last victory against the Jaguars propelled the Chiefs to a playoff berth as the club registered a 35-30 victory at Arrowhead (12/31/06). KC suffered a 37-7 loss vs. San Diego (10/25) in its most recent contest.

A graduate of the University of North Florida, Todd Haley makes his return to the Jacksonville area for the first time as an NFL head coach. His last trek to North Florida came as a member of the Cowboys coaching staff (9/10/06). The Jaguars are currently 3-3 and enjoyed their bye last week. They are at Tennessee (11/1) this weekend after posting a 23-20 OT win vs. St. Louis (10/18). In addition to their victory against the Rams, Jacksonville also produced a 31-24 victory at Houston (9/27) and a 37-17 win vs. Tennessee (10/4).

Rookie K Ryan Succop is 9-11 (.818) on FGs this season. He is on pace to finish the year with 20 FGs, which would be one shy of the franchise single-season rookie record set by Hall of Fame K Jan Stenerud in ‘67. P Dustin Colquitt already owns the Chiefs career record with 123 punts inside the 20- yard line, including 19 this season, which puts him on pace to fi nish the year with 43 inside the 20, which would shatter P Louie Aguiar’s KC single-season record of 29 set in ‘95.

The bye comes at an opportune time for the Chiefs. Kansas City has been without the services of T Branden Albert, who suffered an ankle injury vs. Dallas (10/11). G/T Wade Smith has started the past two games in his place, but finished last week’s contest at center in place of an injured C Rudy Niswanger. In total, the Chiefs have had 35 different players start at least one game for the club in 2009. In fact, Kansas City hasn’t boasted the same 22 starters in backto- back weeks all season.

Following the Jacksonville contest, Kansas City will make its initial West Coast trip of the season when the Chiefs visit Oakland (11/15).

The Chiefs are 1-2 against the Jaguars under head coach Jack Del Rio. KC owns a 1-3 record against the Jaguars at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Kansas City’s initial victory in this series was a 30-26 win at Jacksonville (12/30/01) as WR Eddie Kennison registered his initial 100-yard game in a Chiefs uniform, grabbing six receptions for 121 yards. That victory snapped an 11-game losing streak in the state of Florida for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are 1-3 against the Jaguars in four preseason games. Kansas City’s lone preseason win against the Jaguars was a 22-21 victory at Arrowhead (8/22/98) in the initial preseason meeting between the two clubs. Jacksonville claimed preseason wins vs. the Chiefs in ‘99, 2000 and 2001.
