Oct 21, 2009, 8:58:32 AMThe Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that Liberty High School’s Joel Wells and Basehor-Linwood High School’s Steve Hopkins have been named the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week, respectively.
Wells received accolades after his Liberty squad overcame an early two touchdown deficit against Columbia Rock Bridge in a 35-20 victory. Hopkins earned the honor after his Basehor-Linwood squad edged out Tonganoxie 28-27 in double overtime.
The 2009 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chiefs Ambassadors and the National Football League. Supported locally by the U.S. Army, this program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance throughout the year.
A Chiefs Ambassador and a U.S. Army representative will be on hand at each week’s presentation to honor the recipient. All media members are invited to attend each special tribute to honor these individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.
