Chiefs Defensive Linemen Delivered Special "Pets" to Youth at Operation Breakthrough

Oct 07, 2009, 1:39:42 PM

cropbmageeThe gift giving season came early this year to children from Operation Breakthrough, when Chiefs DE Glenn Dorsey and DE Alex Magee delivered over 50 Zhu Zhu pets™ and accessories.

Zhu Zhu Pets™ are this year’s must have toy. These “Pets” are innovative, realistic, interactive, plush, and artificially intelligent hamsters that talk and move around in their own playsets. The best alternatives to real live hamsters, Zhu Zhu Pets™ hamsters don’t poop, die, or stink, but they are still a riot of motion and sound. They dart around in their hamster tubes and busily scurry from room to room. These hamsters have over 40 different sound effects, depending on the unique environment they encounter.

As the children entered the room they were greeted by Dorsey, Magee, and the Zhu Zhus. Their excitement was overwhelming. For Dorsey and Magee they couldn’t decide which was more intimidating, facing 300-pound offensive linemen or seeing 40 excited children about to receive a great new toy. Smiles were shared by all as the children scurried around to play with their new Zhu Zhus.

The children first went to Dorsey to receive their Zhu Zhu Pet. Next, the children visited Magee to receive the beds and blankets for their new pet. After receiving their pet the children could be seen all over the room totally captivated by their new friend. Many children took their Zhu Zhu to the accessory playsets that were set up and watched in amazement as the Zhu Zhus navigated through their environment. Others placed their Zhu Zhu on the floor and let it scamper throughout the room. The laughs and squeals from the delighted children were loud enough to rival the noise at Arrowhead Stadium, and Magee was more than happy to bring such joy and excitement to the children.

“It was great to be around these kids and seeing them have fun and just running around smiling and having a good time,” he said. “That obviously makes me feel good inside. I’m glad I was able to do something like this.”

After the Zhu Zhus were distributed Dorsey and Magee took some more time to sign autographs for the children. Not only did the children get a great toy to take home, they also received autographs from two generous Chiefs players. It’s safe to say that a great time was had by all.
