Chiefs Sign UFA S Mike Brown

twitterThe Kansas City Chiefs announced on Thursday that the club has signed unrestricted free agent S Mike Brown.

Brown (5-10, 207) appeared in 100 regular season games (99 starts) during his previous nine seasons with Chicago (2000-08). He recorded 629 tackles (413 solo), 17 interceptions for 275 yards with four TDs and seven fumble recoveries for 221 yards with three TDs. He also contributed 5.0 sacks (-35.0 yards), five forced fumbles, 37 passes defensed, nine tackles for loss, 30 special teams tackles and a blocked FG. His seven career defensive TDs and three fumble return TDs are the most of any player in Bears history, while his four INT return TDs are tied for the most in franchise history.

Brown earned a Pro Bowl berth following the 2005 campaign when he also earned second-team All-Pro honors. He also played in two postseason contests (two starts) for Chicago, registering six tackles. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round selection (39th overall) of Chicago in the 2000 NFL Draft.

He finished his career at the University of Nebraska with 287 career tackles, the second-highest tally in school history. Brown led the squad in tackles for three straight seasons from ‘97-99. Brown was named the Arizona Player of the Year as a prep at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he competed as a defensive back and running back.
