Chiefs Wrap Up Three-Day Mini-Camp, Back on the Field for OTAs on Monday
Jun 07, 2009, 12:34:37 PMThe Chiefs concluded their mandatory three-day
mini-camp on Sunday with a single practice that concluded shortly before noon. Head coach Todd Haley’s club will return
to the field on Monday for an OTA (Organized Team Activity), marking the first of four OTAs scheduled for the week.
“I thought we made very good progress as a team,” Haley commented following the Sunday practice session. “We were able to get a lot of installation in. We worked some of the Red (Zone) area in both our seven-on-seven and our team which is very good. It was clear to me that the effort was excellent, that each day we got a little bit better. That’s what we’re looking for. Now, we continue on immediately tomorrow with OTAs. It won’t be a lot different.”
Haley concluded Sunday’s practice session with a punt-catching competition designed to allow the team to shave some running off the end of the workout. One of the more impressive snags of the day came from G Mike Goff, who Haley indicated had never fielded a punt before in his football career. While other non-traditional return men such as LB Tamba Hali, DT Tank Tyler and T Barry Richardson all tried their hand at catching punts – bringing some levity to the end of mini-camp – the element of competition was still present in the exercise.
“Everything’s competition (in the off-season),” Haley related. “They’re racing through bags. They’re racing through hoops. Everything is man against man, team against team, not offense-defense. We pick teams like we’re on a schoolyard lot and play games like that. That’s all part of the process to me and the fact that we’ve had 80 plus guys, I don’t think it hurts.”
The Chiefs return to the field with four OTA sessions this week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
