trolleyccviWith the Chiefs Rookie Mini Camp having just concluded, it can be said there are several characteristics that go into projecting a college player’s threshold in the NFL. Agility, speed, and intelligence are just a few. It is undoubtedly just as important to have the vision to see a play develop before the ball is even snapped. However, vision is just as important off the gridiron. That’s why the Kansas City Chiefs organization recently continued its support of the Trolley Run, benefiting the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI).

Chiefs players P Dustin Colquitt and C Rudy Niswanger participated in the 21st Annual Trolley Run. This worthy cause had thousands of people running or walking to help raise money and awareness for this worth-while organization. During the children’s portion of the race, these Chief players took time to mingle and sign autographs for the kids, many of whom are visually impaired themselves.

The Chiefs support of CCVI goes well past the Trolley Run. This agency will also be the recipient of the 2009 Chiefs Children’s Charity Game, taking place this August. Over the last five years alone, the Chiefs Children’s Charity Game has amassed nearly $2.5 million for local charities, including a record $750,000 in 2005. Celebrating its 25th season this year, the game is recognized throughout the NFL as the league’s top charity game.

The Trolley Run is a vital fundraiser for the CCVI. Last year, this fundraiser netted $484,000 for CCVI. Also, it is the largest four-mile run/walk in the United States with more than 10,000 participates and more than 600 volunteers work on the run, some year-round. Since 1989, the Trolley Run has raised more than $2.5 million for CCVI.

The mission of the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired is to prepare children with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities, to function at their highest potential in the sighted world. The Chiefs are pleased that they are able to continue to help raise money to this prestigious organization.
