Q&A with DE TYSON JACKSON - 4/25

Apr 25, 2009, 5:00:14 PM

CONFERENCE CALL

Q: What are your emotions right now?

TYSON JACKSON: “Right now I am just so proud that the Kansas City Chiefs selected with the third pick. I have a roller coaster going through my body right now. I am going to come down there and give them everything I possibly have on the football field and in the community and try and make the Kansas City Chiefs a better place.”

Q: How much contact did you have with the Chiefs prior to today?

JACKSON: “I spoke with them a few times at the combine. I came to visit the Chiefs in Missouri. Not too much from there. I just look forward to getting to know all the coaches on the coaching staff and the players.”

Q: What does it mean to have DT Glenn Dorsey and WR Dwayne Bowe on this team (Both from LSU)?

JACKSON: “They only tells me good things. They think the potential on the team is unlimited. Those guys really got my spirits really high throughout this whole process. They told me everything would take of itself in the draft.”

Q: Do you look forward to playing with Dorsey?

JACKSON: “Yeah, definitely. In college we were one of the best combinations in the nation. We really controlled the football field and we led our team to the National Championship. With us together again, our goal is set to win the Super Bowl. I know that guy can work and I will come out there and do the same.”

Q: What is it like to be the third overall pick?

JACKSON: “I really don’t know where it came from, but I know from talking with my agent who talked to two scouts from different teams, really the only type of defensive lineman that get into the draft are 6-5, 290 lbs that have played defensive end in a 3-4 defense. I came into the draft at the right time and into the right situation. I am the only defensive end like me in the draft.”

twitterQ: Do you have a preference in playing the 3-4 or 4-3?

JACKSON: “I don’t mind. I consider myself a complete football player, so either a 4-3 or a 3-4. I can always get used to that 3-4 and get adjusted to it. Once I learn the playbook it is on. It is nothing but football.”

Q: Can you put heat on the passer?

JACKSON: “I know they put out there that I have trouble rushing the passer, but not to brag about myself but I ranked as one of the best in sacks at LSU. I do my fair share of rushing the passer. If I am not getting double-teamed or chipped by the running back, I pull my weight. I am going to do my very best every snap to put pressure on the quarterback.”

Q: Do you consider yourself more of a complete defensive end than just a pass rusher?

JACKSON: “Yes, sir. I contribute on all three downs. I have no problem playing the run and I can contribute with the pass.”

Q: Were you in New York for the draft? If not, where were you at?

JACKSON: “No sir. I am a country boy. I grew up in a small town near New Orleans, Louisiana. I couldn’t be in the New York, New York Radio City type atmosphere. I am currently in a Sheraton Hotel in downtown New Orleans with 15 of my family members. Right now we are just celebrating.”

Q: Did GM Scott Pioli or Head Coach Todd Haley contact you? What did they say?

JACKSON: “Yes sir. They said they were pleased to have me out there and they are ready to get me out there and start training. They want to get me started making the transition from college to the NFL. I don’t think it is going to be a hard job but they basically greeted me and told me they are excited to get me up there.”

Q: Did you think the Chiefs would take you?

JACKSON: “I really didn’t know. Leading up to the draft I had a blank mind about the whole situation and who would draft me at what point in time. I am just glad the Scott Pioli and Todd Haley decided to draft me. I can honestly say I am going to come out there and give them a 100 percent effort as a player to do my best.”
