Chiefs Sign FA TE Tony Curtis; C Rudy Niswanger Signs RFA Tender
Apr 24, 2009, 10:30:23 AMThe Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the club has signed free agent TE Tony Curtis and that C Rudy Niswanger has signed his restricted free agent tender.
Curtis (6-5, 251) has seen action in
36 games during his three-year NFL career with Dallas (2006-08). He has caught 11 passes for 80 yards (4.5 avg.) with
three TDs and registered five special teams tackles to go with three kickoff returns for 27 yards. He has also played
in one postseason game. Curtis recorded 14 receptions for 112 yards and three TDs for the Cologne Centurions of NFL
Europa in 2007. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Dallas in 2005 and spent his first NFL
campaign on the Cowboys practice squad.
He played in 22 games in two seasons at Portland State, posting 16 catches for 175 yards with a TD. Curtis started his collegiate career at Fresno Community College. He lettered in football and basketball at Seaside High School in Seaside, California and named Monterey County Athlete of the Year in 2001.
Niswanger (6-5, 301) has played in 30 games (15 starts) during his previous three seasons with the Chiefs. He started 15 contests at center for Kansas City in 2008. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Chiefs in 2006.
The Monroe, Louisiana native played in 47 games (29 starts) at LSU, starting at least one game at all five offensive line positions. Niswanger was a prep standout as an offensive and defensive lineman at Ouachita Christian High School in Monroe, Louisiana.
