Kansas City Signs Unrestricted Free Agent LB Zach Thomas

that the club has signed unrestricted free agent LB Zach Thomas.
Thomas (5-11, 242) has appeared in 184 games (182 starts) during his 13-year career with Miami (’96-07) and Dallas (2008). He has also started eight postseason games with the Dolphins. A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Thomas earned a spot on the AFC Pro Bowl squad following the ‘99-03 and 2005-06 seasons in addition to being named first-team All-Pro five times. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft choice (154th overall) of Miami in the ‘96 NFL Draft.
The Texas Tech product has recorded 2,043 tackles (1,325 solo), 20.5 sacks (-139.0 yards) and 17 interceptions for 170 yards with four TDs. Thomas has also produced 68 passes defensed, 15 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. His 2,043 career tackles rank third among active LBs, while his 17 INTs are tied for fifth among that group. Thomas has registered 92 tackles (70 solo), a sack (-9.0 yards), four passes defensed and one fumble recovery in the postseason.
The Pampa, Texas native was a four-year letterman at Texas Tech, earning All-America honors and All-Southwest Conference accolades as a senior. He was a prep standout as a linebacker and running back at Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas.
The Chiefs also waived WR Will Franklin on Monday. Franklin played in 13 games (one start) with the Chiefs in 2008.
