Chiefs Agree to Terms with Four Reserve/Future Free Agents

savageThe Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to terms with four Reserve/Future Free Agents. The list of players who agreed to terms of two-year contracts includes: G Brian De La Puente, G Edwin Harrison, DT T.J. Jackson and RB Dantrell Savage. As per club policy, no further terms of the agreements were announced.

De La Puente (6-3, 306) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with San Francisco in 2008. He was claimed off waivers by Kansas City from the 49ers on August 31st and spent the first seven weeks of the 2008 season on the Chiefs active roster. He was a member of the Chiefs practice squad for the final nine weeks of 2008.

The Los Angeles, California native played in 26 games (16 starts) during his four-year collegiate career at California, earning honorable mention All-Pac 10 honors as a senior in 2007. He was an All-South Coast League selection at San Clemente High School in San Clemente, California.

Harrison (6-3, 314) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2008. He attended training camp with the Chiefs, but was released prior to the start of the regular season and spent the entire 2008 campaign on Kansas City’s practice squad. He saw action in 45 contests (29 starts) at right tackle for Colorado. Harrison is the grandson of former Iowa G Calvin Jones, winner of the ‘55 Outland Trophy. He prepped at Wesbury High School in Houston, Texas.

Jackson (6-0, 304) has seen action in nine NFL contests, totaling six tackles (four solo) and a sack (-5.0 yards). He saw duty in four contests with Kansas City in 2008, tallying two tackles (one solo). Jackson also spent two weeks on the Chiefs practice squad in 2008. He spent the entire 2007 campaign on Kansas City’s practice squad after being released by Atlanta prior to the start of the regular season. He originally entered the NFL in 2006 as a rookie free agent with Atlanta and saw duty in five games for the Falcons after spending time on Atlanta’s practice squad. The Opelika, Alabama native was a second-team All-SEC selection at Auburn and prepped at Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama.

Savage (5-8, 182) entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2008. He saw duty in eight contests with the Chiefs in 2008, registering 15 rushes for 53 yards (3.5 avg.) and two receptions for no yardage. Savage paced the club with 26 kickoff returns for 633 yards (24.3 avg.) and also added eight punt returns for 17 yards (2.1 avg.) and four special teams stops. He spent the final six weeks of 2008 on Kansas City’s practice squad.

The Columbus, Georgia native appeared in 22 contests over two seasons at Oklahoma State after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He carried the ball 349 times for 2,092 yards (6.0 avg.) with 17 TDs and caught 35 passes for 307 yards (8.8 avg.) with two TDs for the Cowboys. Savage concluded his impressive prep career at Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia.
