Chiefs-Dolphins Postgame Comments - QB Tyler Thigpen
Dec 21, 2008, 4:58:32 PMOn your career passing day: “Bottom line is we didn’t win. You can take that career passing and use whatever you want but we didn’t win. That’s what it comes down to.”
On this game being the same story – another bad fourth quarter: “It does feel like that. Those are things coach talked about that we’ve got to overcome. We’ve got to overcome those things. We can’t use that to lean on. It can’t be the same old story each and every week which it has been.”
On playing in this weather: “It’s football. It’s what you signed up to play for. Whether it’s college or the NFL you have to deal with it. This is football weather playing in December.”
On playing for the coach’s job next week: “Well, I hope we’re not playing for his job. I hope he’s here next year. We’ve had some tough ones this year but I don’t think his job should be jeopardy. He’s done what he should have done this year. Don’t blame him at all. He’s a coach, not a player. If anyone wants to say that come take it up with me.”
On the Dolphins not giving up an offensive TD and why you were so effective: “Stats are stats but we were able to play our game and that’s what we did the first half. We’re not going to let a defense come in and adjust our game plan.”
On any surprise you threw so much: “Whatever coach calls he calls. That’s not a question. We live with that stuff as a team. Once again, if it takes throwing the ball twice as many times we’re going to throw the ball.”
On any difficulty gripping the ball: “No, never going to use any excuses. I thought I did a good job of keeping my hand warm between plays. A couple of snaps dropped where I didn’t focus but we were lucky to get them back.”
On the footing on the next-to-last series you had the ball: “Yeah, we had these turf shoes that are the best cleats for the surface. I went to try and plant and my foot slipped right out from under me.”
On seeing progress with this year’s team and yourself: “I can. I feel like I’ve progressed and still have a lot to go. I feel that I am the quarterback for the Chiefs and moving forward we can build on that. That’s a big thing for us.”
On what the coach said in the locker room at the after the game: “Tough one again. We had it in the first three quarters and half of the fourth quarter. But at the end of the game they were able to pull it out.”
On catching them off-guard as a runner: “Teams probably now are going to be more conscious of that but are they going to waste one guy in the secondary and spy on me or get on (a receiver) in coverage? That’s a decision that defenses have to make.”
On his touchdown run: “It was a designed run up the middle and they twisted and that allowed me to go outside. There is no reason for me to run into a twist and get stopped. That’s just making something happen.”
On the fourth down play you slipped: “It was designed to get a guy on the outside. Tony (Gonzalez) had to block and that’s a tough match-up. If I can keep my feet we can get the first down. It’s not even a question. It’s a run-pass option. It’s get me out on the corner and if the guy is open throw it to him and if he’s not I can take off and run. We’ve got two guys. It’s nice on fourth-and-short to (go with) a run-pass option. I just have to keep my feet.”
