Rookie Club Visits Local Seniors
Dec 04, 2008, 8:32:49 AM
Throughout the year the Chiefs Rookie Club has been
helping to inspire and teach youngsters all over the metro area. This week, the rookies gather for the last “club”
visit, this time with a much different group of individuals. In all, over 20 gridiron gladiators visited members of the
Don Bosco Senior Center.
The rookies spent time learning some new card games while getting tips on some old ones. Others decided to spend
their time playing dominoes or by putting together food care packages for seniors that were currently homebound. There
was even a ballroom dancing class that allowed the seniors and rookies alike to try out their best steps.
In the eighth year of existence, the Chiefs Rookie Club was the first of its type but has become commonplace
throughout the NFL. The goal of the group is to introduce the players to community organizations in their new
hometown.
The Don Bosco Senior Center serves adults age 60 and over, and people 18 and over with disabilities. The Center’s
primary services are to provide meals and transportation, as well as activities promoting health, education and
recreation. Don Bosco is the largest, most comprehensive senior center in the Greater Kansas City area.
