Those eating lunch at Cross-Lines Cooperative Council were in for quite a special treat this week. That’s because
Lia Edwards and other members of the CWO where there in full force to help prepare and serve them lunch. With the
calendar quickly approaching Thanksgiving, the cause was important to all those present.
Working in shifts, some 30 members of the CWO spend the day at Cross-Lines. Arriving before lunch, the ladies
prepared the lunch before working the service line and participating in cleanup. The CWO members also decorate the
center with Chiefs decorations creating a festive and fun atmosphere.
The CWO is an organization comprised of wives, fiancées, and significant others of Chiefs players, coaches and
football support staff members. Founded by Lia Edwards, the mission of the organization is to build goodwill in the
Kansas City community through active volunteer participation.
Cross-lines was built on a simple idea - that poverty-borne problems could be answered best by looking to the
community for solutions and working together to tackle them. In 1963, a group of concerned citizens joined together to
improve the plight of the poor. Under their leadership, they created a legacy of programs that have positively impacted
the lives of thousands of needy people.
