RB Jackie Battle to 53-Man Roster; DT Antwon Burton to PS

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has promoted RB Jackie Battle to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Battle has spent the entire 2008 season on either the practice squad or 53-man roster. He has been active for games at New England (9/7), vs. Tampa Bay (11/2) and at San Diego (11/9) in 2008. The Chiefs also added DT Antwon Burton to the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of either agreement were made available.

Battle (6-2, 238) originally joined the Chiefs a year ago as a member of the team’s practice squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster for the final three contests of 2007. He has seen action in six NFL games, recording 14 carries for 47 yards (3.4 avg.) while adding a TD on his first NFL carry. Battle originally entered the NFL with Dallas as a rookie free agent in 2007, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

Battle finished his career at the University of Houston with a school-record 31 rushing TDs. In 41 collegiate games, Battle tallied 441 carries for 2,120 yards (4.8 avg.) with 31 TDs. He also added six receptions for 45 yards (7.5 avg.) with the Cougars. Battle prepped at Humble High School in Humble, Texas.

Burton (6-2, 308) has seen duty in seven NFL contests over the last two seasons with Denver, tallying nine tackles (five solo). He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Denver in 2006, spending time on the Broncos practice squad before joining the 53-man roster for the final eight games of the 2006 season. Burton saw his most extensive NFL action a season ago, appearing in six contests and registering eight tackles (five solo) before spending the final seven weeks of 2007 on Denver’s developmental squad. He attended training camp with Cincinnati in 2008, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

The Cheektowaga, New York native played two seasons at Temple after beginning his collegiate career at Erie Community College in Orchard Park, New York. He totaled 66 tackles, five stops for loss, three forced fumbles and four fumbled recoveries as a senior for the Owls, earning an appearance in the East-West Shrine Game. Burton attended Cleveland Hills High School in Cheektowaga, New York.
