Chiefs add Three to Practice Squad

Oct 01, 2008, 6:11:13 AM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has added CB A.J. Davis, DE Jermaine McGhee and G Anthony Oakley to the club’s practice squad. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreements were made available.

Davis (5-10, 193) originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round (105th overall) selection of Detroit in the 2007 NFL Draft. He attended training camp with the Lions in 2007, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. After one week on Detroit’s practice squad, Davis was signed to Cleveland’s practice squad. He spent the final 16 weeks of the regular season on the Browns practice squad and attended training camp with Cleveland in 2008, before being released prior to the start of the regular season.

Davis played in 46 games (23 starts) at North Carolina State, where he was a teammate of current Chiefs DT Tank Tyler and S DaJuan Morgan. Davis totaled 135 tackles (104 solo), 1.5 sacks (-7.5 yards), five tackles for loss, 30 passes defensed and four INTs for 111 yards. He also returned seven kickoffs for 130 yards (18.6 avg.) and lettered twice on the Wolfpack track team. Davis prepped at Northern Durham High School in Durham, NC.

McGhee (6-3, 242) joins the Chiefs after playing collegiately at Prairie View A&M. He was a first-team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selection as a senior in 2006 after tallying 67 tackles (32 solo), 8.0 sacks and a pass defensed.

Oakley (6-3, 306) has seen action in three NFL contests with the Bears. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Cleveland in 2004 and was a member of the Browns practice squad for one week. He joined the Bears in 2005 and spent the entire season on Chicago’s practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man active roster in 2006. Oakley spent all 16 games of the 2006 season on the Bears active roster, but did not log any action. He began the 2007 campaign on the Bears practice squad before being promoted to the active roster and making his NFL debut vs. Denver (11/27/07). Oakley attended training camp with Chicago in 2008, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. He was also a member of the Cardinals practice squad for the first week of the 2008 season.

Oakley started all 13 games at left guard in his only season at Western Kentucky after transferring from Indiana, where he played for three seasons. He finished his prep career at Westbury High School in Houston, Texas.
