Chiefs Continue Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Initiatives

kcwinpinkThe Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Cancer Center are teaming up for a very special cause. At the team’s September 28th game against the Denver Broncos, the organization will officially recognize “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Thanks to a series of exciting programs, Chiefs fans are able to participate in the fight against breast cancer while showing their Chiefs pride. Kansas City Chiefs breast cancer awareness programs includes:

  1. The return of “Pink Ribbon Wear.” $5 from the sales of all “Pink Ribbon Wear” hats, shirts, ties and scarves sold at Arrowhead and via kcchiefs.com are benefiting the Young Survival Collation.
  2. Lia Edwards and 40 CWO members will be distributing free Pink Ribbon Temporary Tattoos to fans as they enter the turnstiles of Arrowhead on September 28th.
  3. Chiefs players will be joined by a special group of breast cancer survivors during the coin toss on September 28th. Beverly Curl, herself a survivor and wife of Chiefs Assistant Head Coach Dick Curl, will be joined by individuals from the Young Survival Coalition. These inspirational individuals will be at mid-field acting as Honorary Co-Captains.
  4. The halftime performance on September 28th will have a breast cancer awareness theme. The Kansas State University Marching Band, the Pride of Wildcat Land, will be performing at this time. They will make the “ribbon” outline on the field to signify their support of breast cancer awareness theme during the routine.
  5. The ever-popular KC Wolf will have a pre-game skit on September 28th focused on breast cancer awareness.
  6. Chiefs Cheerleaders will be donned in pink for a special breast cancer awareness routine during the on September 28th game.
  7. Throughout the month of September and October, the mirrors in the ladies restrooms of Arrowhead Stadium will have special mirror clings lauding self-examinations.
  8. The Arrowvision screen will again have a pink ribbon affixed to it and special Breast Cancer Awareness Public Service Announcements will be played during games in October. There will also be a special public service announcement shown at the September 28th game including players from both the Chiefs and Broncos.
  9. On October 1, at 10:00 AM members from the Chiefs organization, including the CWO and the Chiefs Cheerleaders, will join Kansas City Cancer Center for a special event. Located at the Country Club Plaza’s iconic J.C. Nichols Fountain, they will participate in an ceremony to officially turn the water in the fountain pink. This is being done in observance of the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Young Survival Coalition
The Young Survival Coalition was founded in 1998 and provides a peer-support network of survivors as well as vital resources to decrease the sense of isolation felt by young women affected by breast cancer.
