Q&A with HERM EDWARDS - 8/13

Aug 13, 2008, 6:50:46 PM

Q: Was that a four-minute offense you were working on?

HERM EDWARDS: ”(The situation was) 3:58 left, ball on the minus 19-yard line, they (the Chiefs offense) were winning the game, winning by two and the defense has three timeouts. Basically in that scenario, what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to run nine plays. And what the defense has to do is call their timeouts with the two-minute in there. It’s the first time we did it, and we learned something from it.”

Q: T Damion McIntosh, is he all right?

EDWARDS: “He’s resting. His knee’s sore.”

Q: How about DT Turk McBride?

EDWARDS: “He’s okay. His hamstring is a little sore so we kept him out. Didn’t want to take a chance. He’ll be available for Saturday.”

Q: Would you say now that DT Glenn Dorsey is not going to be playing on Saturday?

EDWARDS: “I don’t know. We’ll wait till Saturday to see. If he does, it won’t be a lot of plays.”

Q: Do you feel comfortable with everything you got done?

EDWARDS: “Yeah. You always wish you had more, but I think we accomplished a lot of things with a bunch of young guys. I think the thing that I realized in practice when I watch these guys is they’re going to play physically. They don’t back down from that. It was a very lively practice, I thought. It was the third day in pads and they got after it. We’ve still got a long way to go. We built the foundation of what we want to do offensively, defensively and special teams. Now we have to continue to play in the preseason and start evaluating these guys and pick the best 53 players.”

Q: How did T Barry Richardson do filling in for McIntosh?

EDWARDS: “He did okay. He’s a young guy, we like him. You know, he’s a young tackle and that’s not always an easy place to play. But he’s got ability and that’s why you draft a guy like that. He’s got tremendous size. He’s very smart. He just has to play, and he’ll get a lot of playing time in the preseason.”

Q: LB Demarrio Williams was getting into the backfield quite a bit today. Do you think that’s something he can add to your defense?

EDWARDS: “Well, yeah. We’ll use him sometimes as a rusher. We can bring him on blitzes. He’s got a good knack for getting to the quarterback coming off the edge. He’s a speed guy, and that always helps you to have speed like that.”
