Chiefs, FDFDS Continue the Fight Against Downs Syndrome at "Huddle Time"
Jun 06, 2008, 9:35:27 AM
The Kansas City Chiefs recently joined First Downs for Down Syndrome for the 12th Annual Huddle Time auction to
benefit the Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas City and the Down Syndrome Center at Children’s Mercy Hospital. The event was
held at the PBR Big Sky Bar in the Power and Light District in Kansas City. Several Kansas City Chiefs players were in
attendance including G Brian Waters, C Rudy Niswanger, and T Branden Albert.
Former Chiefs C Tim Grunhard served as honorary chair of this year’s event. The event was a significant one to the
Chiefs alumnus. He originally served as the organization’s first spokesperson for the First Downs for Down Syndrome
initiative.
Players mingled with fans and bid on various items. Items present at the auction included autographed Kansas City
Chiefs memorabilia, Kansas City Chiefs football tickets with sideline passes, Kansas City Wizards packages and much
more. It was an amiable event where fans were able to meet players in a more relaxed atmosphere.
The mission of First Downs for Down Syndrome is to raise money for the Down Syndrome Guild, the Down Syndrome Clinic
at Children’s Mercy Hospital, and other Down Syndrome organizations. Funds during this even are used to support the
Down Syndrome Guild, which provides 800 Kansas City families with educational and social support, and the Down Syndrome
Clinic at Children’s Mercy, which provides area individuals with Down syndrome, from birth through adolescence, with
medical consultations and resources. For more information about FDFDS.
