A native of Northeast Alabama, Kansas City Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle is known as quite an outdoorsman in addition to his skills on the football field. That why he recently took his passion for hunting and used it to help uplift others. Croyle hosted the Inaugural Turkey Trot Charity Hunt to benefit the Big Oak Ranch through his Brodie Croyle Foundation.

“I’m so excited to have hosted this event,” Croyle said. “I have a long history with the Big Oak Ranch. I basically grew up there. For me to be able to help give back is just a special feeling.”

The Kick-off/Pairing Party and Auction, which raised well in excess of 40,000 dollars, took place on the eve of the hunt. Brodie and his father, John, were joined at the event by country music artist Rhett Akins. As a way to help get all the hunters in the correct frame of mind, Akins held a special performance where sang some of his favorite songs.

Then in the wee hours of the following morning, Croyle along with the event’s hunters and guides set off for the Turkey Trot Charity Hunt at numerous locations throughout the metro. Some of the celebrity guides for the hunt included the likes of Croyle, Akins, and former Chiefs player/founder of DiscovertheOutdoors.com QB Tony Adams. The day concluded with an award ceremony, with the winner boosting a turkey that weighed over 24 pounds.

The weekend’s festivities benefited the Big Oak Ranch. Founded by John Croyle, this Christian home and school helps children that come from troubled and abusive situations. Typically, “The Ranch” houses approximately 125 individuals at any given time and is split into both a boys and girls ranch. The younger Croyle grew up there and welcomes it’s past, present, and future residents as his extended family.

Later this coming season, Croyle is planning a special excursion for some of the Ranch’s residents. His goal is to allow them to visit not only Croyle’s adopted home of Kansas City, but taken in a Chiefs game from revered Arrowhead Stadium.
