Kansas City Agrees to Terms with KR B.J. Sams

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Monday that the club has agreed to terms of a one-year
contract with unrestricted free agent KR B.J. Sams. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made
available.
Sams (5-10, 185) joins the Chiefs after playing in 43 games (with one start at CB) in four seasons
with Baltimore (2004-07). He has returned 138 kickoffs for 3,161 yards (22.9 avg.) and 121 punts for 1,320 yards (10.9
avg.) with two TDs. He enjoyed his best season as a rookie with the Ravens in 2004 when he played in all 16 games (one
start), taking back 59 kickoffs for 1,251 yards (21.2 avg.) and 55 punts for 575 yards (10.5 avg.) with two TDs. He
returned a punt for a 58-yard TD vs. Kansas City (10/4/04), his first career return score. Sams posted a career-long
78-yard punt return TD at Washington (10/10/04). He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Baltimore in
2004.
The McNeese State product played in 48 games for the Cowboys, amassing 4,903 all-purpose yards with 19 touchdowns.
He also returned a school-record 84 punts for 922 yards (11.0 avg.) with three TDs and 52 kickoffs for 1,306 yards
(25.1 avg.). As a senior, Sams caught 38 passes for 299 yards (7.9 avg.) with 16 TDs and was named the Southland
Conference Player of the Year. He added 27 punt returns for 267 yards (9.9 avg.) with a TD and 22 kickoff returns for
248 yards (11.3 avg.). Sams earned all-state accolades as a senior at Mandeville High School in Mandeville,
Louisiana.
