The Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp Presented by First National Bank to Return in 2008

Mar 25, 2008, 9:43:29 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs and First National Bank today announced that they are continuing a partnership that will lead to an exciting opportunity for 1,000 area youth football players.

firstnationalThe Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp, presented by First National Bank, will be held in Kansas City for the second time on May 17th and May 18th at the Chiefs Practice Facility. Over 150 volunteer coaches will assist the Chiefs coaching staff and players in providing instruction for football and more importantly, the skills necessary to become winners in the game of life. During the course of the camp, Edwards will share seven core concepts with the campers and will expound on their importance both in life and on the football field – Expectations, Priorities, Commitment, Choices, Integrity, Teamwork and Sportsmanship.

“My family is very excited that the Chiefs and First National Bank have teamed up once again to bring our football camp to Kansas City,” Edwards commented. “These youngsters will leave our camp with a solid understanding of some basic football fundamentals, but more importantly, we hope to send them back to their communities and schools as better citizens and students.”

“First National Bank is excited to sponsor this event for the second year,” noted First National Bank President Mike Earleywine. “Last year our bank saw 1,000 children walk away from this event with an experience they will never forget. Coach Edwards is such an inspiration to these young children. We applaud him for making a difference in the lives of so many Kansas City youth.”

Edwards’ name has become synonymous with this type of endeavor. While this represents the second year for the Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp in Kansas City, it is far from the first youth camp this seven-year NFL head coaching veteran has organized. Having grown up on the Monterey Peninsula and graduated from Monterey High School, he hosts a similar clinic in his native California each summer. Entering its 13th season in 2008, Edwards’ California camp is a rousing success and has grown in size each year. That version quickly served as Edwards’ inspiration to bring a similar camp to Kansas City.

The Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp presented by First National Bank is the latest in the organization’s commitment to support youth football initiatives. Other youth football programs that the Chiefs are involved with include honoring a High School Coach of the Week and Year for both Kansas and Missouri, inviting over 3,000 youth football players and coaches to the annual Chiefs Youth Football Game, has donated over $1 million in Grassroots field grants to local agencies and schools, partnering with the National Football Foundation’s “Play it Smart” program as well as the NFL’s Junior Player Development skills camp and will be a pilot program for the new Atlas & Athena substance abuse curriculum.

First National Bank was established in Kansas in 1993 as part of one of the oldest and most successful financial organizations in the Midwest, First National of Nebraska. Since its founding, First National Bank has established an outstanding reputation in the community and has grown to $1.1 billion in assets.
