Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on
Tuesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with unrestricted free agent WR Devard Darling. As
per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available.
“We are pleased to sign a talented young player with experience at the wide receiver position in Devard Darling,”
Peterson commented. “Devard’s best football is still ahead of him. Our wide receivers coach Eric Price recruited Devard
to play at Washington State, so that relationship helped provide additional information on his strengths as a
player.”
Darling (6-1, 213) saw action in 30 games (one start) during four seasons with Baltimore (2004-07).
He caught 20 passes for 331 yards (16.6 avg.) with three touchdowns and added two special teams tackles. Darling played
in all 16 games (one start) for the Ravens in 2007, recording 18 receptions for 326 yards (18.1 avg.) with three TDs.
He originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (82nd overall) of Baltimore in 2004.
Darling ended his collegiate career with 106 receptions for 1,666 yards (15.7 avg.) with 19 touchdowns. He played
his freshman season at Florida State before transferring to Washington State for two years after his twin brother and
teammate with the Seminoles, Devaughn passed away. Darling caught 104 passes for 1,630 yards (15.7 avg.) with 18 TDs in
two seasons with the Cougars. Born in the Bahamas, he moved to the United States and was the top-rated wide receiver
prospect out of Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Texas.
