Chiefs Help "Lift Up America"
Dec 18, 2007, 4:01:31 PMKansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson
recently took a break from dishing out ground-shaking tackles and helped assault hunger instead. This Texas native
joined up with teammates; TE Kris Wilson and CB Dimitri Patterson to dish out some holiday food sprinkled with a lot of
holiday cheer. The players wore huge smiles as they threw on a Santa hats as they helped load up vehicles full of
food.
The Chiefs and Tyson Foods teamed up with Lift Up America to help the needy of Kansas City as the holidays approach. Approximately 40 metro area relief organizations such as food pantries, women’s shelters, drug rehabilitation centers and church ministries benefited from this wonderful drive. Tyson Foods donated 30,000 pounds of protein locally in the fight against hunger via “Powered by Tyson.”
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Chiefs have been involved with the Lift Up America food distribution. In fact, the Red and Gold were one of the original pilot programs, along with the Miami Dolphins. Since that first year, the event has spread to dozens of sports entities throughout the nation. This past spring, the Chiefs piloted another Lift Up America program as they invited 1,000 MVPs to a “Stadium Experience” during the team’s mini camp.
This donation event is one of many planned this year in conjunction with Lift Up America and various professional sports franchises/college athletic teams throughout the nation. In all, this movement will help thousands of people in need around the country. Lift Up America is a movement involving leading corporations, professional and college sports teams and local non-profit agencies uniting to lift hearts in our communities.
