Chiefs Claim LB Johnny Baldwin on Waivers, Add WR Bobby Sippio to Practice Squad

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club claimed LB Johnny Baldwin on waivers
from Detroit on Monday. As per NFL rules, he will play under the terms of his previous contract. The Chiefs also
announced that WR Bobby Sippio has been added to the team’s practice squad.
Baldwin (6-1, 230) went to training camp with the Lions this season after entering the NFL as a
fifth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He finished his collegiate career as one of the most decorated defensive
players in Alabama A&M history. The All-America selection became the first player in school history to register
three 100-tackle seasons, totaling 361 career tackles. Baldwin also ranks third all-time in that school’s history with
35.5 tackles for loss (-158.0 yards) and recorded 13.5 sacks (-102.0 yards), 13 passes defensed and four
interceptions.
Baldwin started all 12 games in 2006, earning Alabama A&M Athlete of the Year for all sports honors. A
three-time All-SWAC selection, he tied a school record with 110 tackles (54 solo) to go along with 4.5 sacks (-33.0
yards), an interception, three passes defensed and three forced fumbles as a senior. He was an all-area and
all-district standout at McAdory High School in Bessemer, Alabama.
Sippio (6-3, 214) participated in training with
the Chiefs after spending the previous four seasons (2004-07) in the Arena Football League. He caught 354 passes for
5,137 yards (14.5 avg.) with 142 TDs. He played in 18 games with the Chicago Rush in 2006-07, recording 163 receptions
for 2,391 yards (14.7 avg.) with 70 scores. He also spent two seasons (2002-03) in Arena League 2. He originally
entered the NFL as a free agent with Miami in 2004.
The Orlando, Florida native played three seasons (’99-01) as a cornerback and safety at Western Kentucky. Sippio
concluded his college career with 179 tackles, 19 interceptions, 41 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and four
fumble recoveries. He was a three-sport athlete at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida.
