HERMAN EDWARDS: “I told the football team I did a bad job of preparing this football team to play this game. It was
evident the way we played. We didn’t tackle very well. Offensively, we’re not very good, not very good running the
ball, throwing the ball. We’re not very good at all. We haven’t been very consistent the last three weeks and we have
to come to some kind of conclusion what we’re going to be as a football team. Right now, we’re not very consistent on
one side of the ball.
“Defensively, we’re ok in spurts. Tonight we knew we were facing a good football team, a team that we knew could
move the ball and that was very good last year on offense. They got us off-balance. We had big eyes out there on
defense. We didn’t counter and get off the football field. So, some of that is our fault.
“Offensively, we’re struggling. We’ve struggled for the last three weeks and we can’t seem to get out of our own
way. We’re not scoring any points and that’s never good. We never got in the Gold Zone (inside the 30-yard line) except
at the end of the game. There’s a lot of things that went on in this game that at the end of the day you’re not going
to win.
“We’ve got two weeks to figure out what kind of team we’re going to be. That’s enough time. We’ve got good enough
players and a good enough coaching staff.”
Q: So you think you have enough talent on the offensive line of the ball?
EDWARDS: “We do, we do, we have enough. It’s nothing magical.”
Q: Are you ready to name your starting QB right now?
EDWARDS: “No, I am not.”
Q: Evaluate Brodie Croyle’s performance?
EDWARDS: “He struggled some but he didn’t get any help either. He can’t catch the ball; he can’t block. That’s not
all on the quarterback. Now, the quarterback has to make some plays. He got hit early and has now turned the ball over
in [three games.] You can’t turn the ball over. We’ve got a good group of veteran guys on offense that have played a
lot of football games. But we’re not functioning very well on offense. We’ve got no rhythm; can’t seem to get any
rhythm going. We don’t have enough plays. I think the first series we had eight plays and the next drive six plays.
After that it just kind of went away. We never got anything going.
“Look at the Saints: 10-play drive, 11-drive play. They’ve moving the ball and every once in a while they make a big
play.”
