allan_m_miamiTo start things off I want to say thanks.  You fans are pretty impressive and it is your support that pushes this Chiefs team, and myself, to do the best we can.  Last Thursday night against Miami was possibly one of the coolest experiences in my football career and my life in general.  Running out with the other tight ends to the roaring cheers of 70,000 strong was unbelievable.  You all made it easy to get out there and play.  I no longer was simply driven by my passion for the game or for the desire to win the ballgame but by knowing that so many of you were there in the rain and heat to cheer us on gave me more reason to work my tail off.

In addition to all of you, whom I might go as far as to call insane, in the best possible way, I was fortunate enough to play my first home game in front of my parents, Don and Marylee.  This was a rare blessing in a situation such as mine because of the distance factor.  They flew out from Seattle to see me and to see the Chiefs, and for that I am grateful.  For if it weren’t for them, I would not have the chance to be here today writing to you and playing for such a great organization.  Thanks Mom and Dad.

Now back to the insane comment.  Arrowhead is one of the loudest places I have ever been.  Not only did it reach such high peaks of volume but you all held that intensity play in and play out.  I don’t think I could hear myself think for almost all of that game.  That is awesome.  Not only could I hear the passion in your cheers but I could feel it.  You had that place rockin’ and had my chest pumping.  And this is just the preseason.  That is cool.

I was also very impressed with the interaction you fans had with the Chiefs.  Singing songs, announcing first downs, chants, boos, cheers…anything. Chiefs fans come to a game and experience the game. There is so much to an NFL game from what I can remember from all my days of watching and attending and so many times you see people just sit and watch.  It makes the experience so much more exiting for both players and fans when the crowd is involved.  I can tell you Kansas City natives love your football and love your Chiefs.  Thanks fans.

As you all know again the game did not go according to plan.  Another loss.  But again I will say this; we are growing and we are steadily improving.  You fans are in for a big treat as this season rolls on.  You have a team that wants to win and has great passion for the game.  If you all can continue the support we saw Thursday night, we shall all sleep easy after endless nights of celebrating this year.  Personally, I saw some more growth in my game.  Thanks to you my adrenaline led me to a few catches and helped me sustain a few blocks here and there.  We were able to move the ball and make some pretty cool things happen.  Despite the loss I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting first home game.  And let me tell you, when I barely, and I mean barely, caught my name over the loudspeaker, muffled greatly by your earth-shattering cheers, I got goose bumps and felt at home.  I am happy to be here and to be part of your Chiefs team.

One last thing before I call it a blog.  A recent interview with Coach Edwards apparently left me with a nickname.  Lumpy.  Ha ha.  What?  Apparently it’s some dude from Leave it to Beaver.  In no way does that sound cool and knowing that it refers to my physical stature makes me want to live in the weight room and eat nothing but bread and water. I will say this however, I couldn’t be happier to be given a nickname from the head coach.  It must mean something good if he took the time to think of one for me.  That’s means he’s thinking about me off the field right?  I love it.  I love this game. Let’s just keep that name on the down low for a bit though, I don’t know how fast I want that spreading. Hope to see you in Arrowhead for our game vs. the Saints.

Thanks for reading,

Michael
