TRAINING CAMP ARRIVAL
Q: Does RB Priest Holmes have a realistic shot to make this team and contribute this year?
EDWARDS: “He’s probably going to start on PUP (Physically Unable to Perform), so he won’t practice with us right away. His history of overcoming the odds are very good and he’s done that in the past earlier in his career. He’s a fantastic football player, a very good football player here, but he hasn’t played in two years and you have to keep that in mind and make sure you protect him. He understands that, we’re pulling for him to do it and we’re going to give him every opportunity to do it.”
Q: You look pretty excited about the start of camp.
EDWARDS: “It’s my 28th training camp and I’m just excited about it as I was 28 years ago. I enjoy training camp, I enjoy football, I enjoy being around these players and hopefully they will enjoy it too.”
Q: Are they going to be excited as you are?
EDWARDS: “They need to be, because if they are not then it is the wrong place for them.”
Q: Did you make that sign (Welcome To Training Camp)?
EDWARDS: “Yeah, I was actually an art major at one time and then I figured out I’d better change my major. My daughter probably could have done a better job then that.”
Q: Everybody made it to training camp except for RB Larry Johnson and WR Dwayne Bowe?
EDWARDS: “To my knowledge, yes. We anticipate that they guy who are not here will be here. When they get here we will hug them and they will go to work.”
Q: Anything new on LJ?
EDWARDS: “Not that I know of.”
Q: How important is it for Bowe to get here quickly? People talk about him battling to be a starter.
EDWARDS: “I don’t worry about that stuff and hopefully this will be the last day that you talk about this stuff, because to me it will be. I’m not going to talk about players that; it does me no good. There are 86 guys that are here and when those guys show up they will be welcome here. There really is no reason to discuss it because I’m not going to talk about it. You need to talk to President Carl Peterson and those guys because I can’t control that, it’s out of my hands and I’m going to coach the 86 guys that are here. When those two that are missing come here I’m going to hug them and they’re going to go to work.”
Q: What do you need to accomplish here at training camp?
EDWARDS: “A lot. The first thing is creating competition. We did that this spring and we’re going to have some tough decisions to make. We start this camp with 88 guys and have to get it down to 53. We’ll get to add another eight on the practice squad to get to 61. It’s actually only 46 days until the opener.”
