CHIEFS WELCOME LIFT UP AMERICA DURING 2007 ARBY'S CHIEFS MINI-CAMP

Jun 04, 2007, 5:44:31 PM

clarkliftupamerstorAs spring showers quickly dissolve into summer heat, the typical football junkie knows that it’s time for mini-camps to kickoff throughout the NFL. Things were no different last week in Kansas City as the Chiefs hosted a franchise record 15,873 fans at the 2007 edition of Arby’s Chiefs Mini-Camp. Included in that number was approximately ¬¬1,000 special MVPs, all watching with great interest.

These MVPs, made up of local less fortunate children and their families, were honored as special guests of the organization at the 2007 Arby’s Chiefs Mini-Camp festivities. The group was invited by the Chiefs and Lift Up America (LUA). This duo partnered with organizations including The Simmons Companies in association with Servant Entertainment to provide this gift of a Chiefs football practice, food and fun.

“We are so very excited to join with Lift Up America in this event,” by Chiefs Chairman of the Board Clark Hunt said as the MVPs proceed past him. “We began working with Lift Up America three years ago and it has been a great partnership since our initial food distribution event held here at Arrowhead.”

Prior to the start of the event, these MVPs participated in a tailgate party complete with hotdogs and other goodies. There was even an appearance by the loveable KC Wolf at the tailgate. After that, the group then had a chance to walk into Arrowhead Stadium through the very same tunnel that moments earlier saw the Red and Gold sprint out of.

While the Chiefs players stretched in preparation for practice on the field, these MVPs were greeted personally by Hunt and then proceed around the field until they reached their special reserved seats. As the practice heated up, some watched the action on the pitch while others interacted with members of the Chiefs Cheerleads that had stopped by for a visit.

After the mini-camp practice concluded, these MVPs were able to interact with and hear inspiring stories from Head Coach Herm Edwards, LB Derrick Johnson, S Bernard Pollard and WR Jeff Webb. They even received special limited autograph cards autographed by some of their favorite Chiefs stars.

This is the first time LUA has conducted such an event during an NFL practice game. The organization is a collaborative effort of companies working with professional and college sports teams and local nonprofit agencies to provide the gifts of food, hearing and comfort to our nation’s less fortunate.
