Chiefs Agree to Terms of a Three-Year Contract with QB Damon Huard

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year
contract with QB Damon Huard. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreements were made available.
“Damon had an excellent year in 2006 and contributed directly to getting our team to the playoffs,” Peterson said.
“Damon is an excellent veteran player and an outstanding person. We’re delighted to have him under contract.”
Huard (6-3, 212) played in 10 games (eight starts)
for the Chiefs year ago, completing 148 of 244 passes for 1,878 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interception for a
98.0 passer rating. He ranked second in the NFL with a 98.0 passer rating while setting a Chiefs single-season record
with a 0.4 interception percentage (min 200 atts.). Huard led the club to a 5-3 record in eight starts in place of an
injured QB Trent Green last year, connecting on 134 of 221 throws for 1,684 yards with 10 TDs and one INT for a 97.6
rating in those eight starts. He was named to the USA Today All-Joe Team for his efforts, an honor annually
bestowed upon the league’s top “blue-collar” performers. Huard completed a career-high 26 of 38 passes for 288 yards
with two TDs for a 108.2 rating to win AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in the club’s 23-20 comeback win at
Arizona (10/1/06).
The Yakima, Washington native has played in 48 career regular season games (14 starts) in addition to four playoff
contests in his previous 10 NFL seasons. He originally joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2004. He has completed 318
of 533 passes for 3,569 yards with 20 TDs and nine INTs for an 85.2 rating during his pro career. Huard spent three
seasons (2001-03) with New England and was a member of the Patriots Super Bowl XXXVI and XXXVIII teams.
Huard played four seasons with Miami (’97-00), appearing in 34 contests (six starts) and registering a 5-1 record as
a starter. He completed 170 of 288 passes for 1,691 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions for a 74.6 QB
rating. He also rushed 28 times for 124 yards (4.4 avg.). Huard played for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in ‘98,
starting all 10 games. Huard connected on 159 of 290 passes for 1,857 yards with 12 TDs and seven INTs for a 78.2
rating during his tenure in NFL Europe and led Frankfurt to a berth in World Bowl VI. He originally entered the NFL as
a college free agent with Cincinnati in ‘96.
The University of Washington product was a three-year starter for the Huskies, concluding his career as the school’s
all-time passing leader with 5,692 yards. Huard completed 458 of 744 passes with 34 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. He
was a two-sport standout at Puyallup High School in Puyallup, Washington.
