Chiefs-Chargers Postgame Quotes - Huard

Chiefs QB Damon Huard

On getting within field-goal range on the last drive: “We had some success during the day moving the football at times. I think with 33 seconds left and a Tony Gonzalez-type player who is a threat down the middle of the field, I think you go for it. We made it a little too hard on ourselves today.”

On Tony Gonzalez’s success today: “We did a nice job of mixing some things up and moving him around and motioning him. There were some nice little match-ups we got him involved in. You hope that you get a certain coverage where you have an opportunity to get him down the middle. He was able to get behind the linebackers and, he’s such a big body with great hands, you kind of throw it up there and give him a chance to make a play. At the end of games, it’s big-time players making big-time plays.”

On finding success against one of the best defense’s in the league: “Our defense did a great job early in the first half to give us the short field because of the turnovers. I think we had that balance we have been looking for. We were able to run the football and make some big plays in the passing game. Then it was ‘give the ball to Larry, our workhorse.’ I think that’s the reason we won today.”

On the Chiefs defense: “Our defense was ready to roll and you knew the Chargers were going to come back. They have a potent offense. Herm said this morning we weren’t going to beat these guys in the first half. It was going to go four quarters and like most games, that’s what happened.”

On the importance of this win: “Real-important. It was a divisional opponent at home and I think, after last week, people wondered what Chiefs team was going to show up today.”

On the late turnover (fumble in the 4th quarter): “The mindset is I did a bad thing and I just hoped I would get another opportunity to go out to make up for the mistake. Fortunately, I got that opportunity.”
