Hello once again Chiefs fans,

We got the monkey off our backs this past Saturday night by pulling off our first road victory of the year against the Hamburg Sea Devils, bringing our record to 3-2. We have a big home game this week against Berlin, keeping us in hunt for the World Bowl. Our past game against Hamburg was another close one, as we had to make a winning scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to go ahead 17-13. The common theme in all of our victories is that we ran the ball well, once again going over a 100 yards rushing. I feel that our offensive line is playing well since we are leading the league in rushing and have given up the fewest sacks in the league through the half way point of the season. As an offensive lineman, you have to take pride in certain statistical categories such as these.

svitekpc We traveled to Hamburg by train for the first time. The whole trek took about 5 hours, but it wasn’t bad since our team was arranged in first class seats. It was very spacious and relaxing. Plus, on the train I started watching the first season of the TV show Lost on my laptop, and became absolutely hooked. I love the show now so if you see me, don’t tell me what happens in the most recent episodes and ruin it for me.

Once we got to Hamburg on Friday, we had about two hours in the afternoon to walk around the downtown area and get a feel of the town. It seemed like a great city, even though we didn’t get to see too much due to time constraints. Also, unlike the previous games, we did not leave Hamburg until Sunday morning, so we got to check out the nightlife after the game on Saturday. One of my college teammates, Scott Scharff, plays for Hamburg, so I was able to grab a beer or two with him after the game.

I spoke with Boomer last night on the phone and he kept me updated with everything that was going on in Kansas City. He said workouts were going well and was already excited for next year. He also mentioned that my stuff was all still in one piece at his house, so hopefully it’s all still there when I get back from Europe.

I also got a chance to speak today on the phone with our new offensive line coach John Matkso for the Chiefs, offensive coordinator Mike Solari and scout Jim Criner. It was good to hear from them and to get feedback on different things to work on while I am out here in Europe.

Thanks for all the support Chiefs fans. I always brag to the guys on the team that we have the best fans in the NFL and that Arrowhead is the toughest place to play in the league. The feedback and interest I’m getting for this diary only confirms that. I will check back with you guys next week after our Berlin game and since we have two days off, I am going to visit Rome. It should be a great time. Talk to you next week.

Now what inquiring minds want to know…

1.) Will, they say the game speed in college is a lot slower than the pro’s. What’s the game speed like in NFL Europe?

- Brian S. from Kansas City

Good question Brian. I definitely think the speed of the game is slower in NFL Europe than the regular NFL. But this league is faster than the college game, so you could say NFL Europe is right in the middle. But it is hard for me to gauge the different levels of talent in the different leagues since I did not play offensive line in college, making my experience different from being in college to the pros.

2.) Will, what do you miss most while you are overseas, and what you do like the most about being overseas?

- Steve Y.

Steve, there is definitely a lot I miss about the states. I just miss all the general items that are available to me in the states, like having my cell phone, a car to drive around, and being able to TIVO my favorite American television shows. I also miss being able to go to a restaurant and actually knowing what you are ordering. Eating and shopping by trial and error gets old after a while. My favorite part about being overseas is the culture and history that exists here in Germany. There are so many interesting things to explore out here. I’m just scratching the surface, but it’s incredible.
