Starting/Playing Streaks & Notes: G Will Shields started his 207th consecutive game and played in his 208th consecutive game, extending his team records in both areas. Shields’ total of 208 games played is second in Chiefs history behind K Nick Lowery (212). Shields’ 207 consecutive starts are the third-longest streak in the NFL since the AFL-NFL merger. QB Trent Green started his 80th consecutive game, the longest string by a QB in KC history and the third-longest active QB streak in the NFL.
Chiefs Register 14th Double-Digit Victory Season: KC finished the year with a 10-6 record, giving the club its 14th season with 10 or more victories.
Chiefs Continue Their Dominance at Arrowhead: KC owns an NFL-best 21-2 (.913) at home in
regular season games played in December and January dating back to ‘95. The Chiefs finished the year with a 7-1 record
at Arrowhead, marking the sixth time since ‘90 that the club has posted a 7-1 record or better at home. KC has won its
last six home games. KC won its regular season finale at Arrowhead for the sixth consecutive season and for the 13th
time in the last 16 seasons dating back to ‘90. Dating back to ‘94, the Chiefs are 21-5 (.808) against opposing head
coaches in their initial regular season visit to Arrowhead. KC has won 17 of its last 19 games against QBs in their
first or second year as NFL starters who are making their initial appearance as a starter at Arrowhead.
Johnson Sets Single-Season Chiefs Rushing Record: On a nine-yard run in the second quarter
RB Larry Johnson set the Chiefs single-season rushing record, bypassing the previous mark of 1,615 yards established by
RB Priest Holmes in 2002. Johnson finished the season with 1,750 rushing yards. He also produced 2,093 yards from
scrimmage, the fourth-best seasonal total in Chiefs history. Johnson finished the game with 201 rushing yards, the
second-highest single-game total in franchise history. Those 201 rushing yards were the fifth-highest single-game total
in the NFL this season.
More On Johnson’s Day: RB Larry Johnson registered TD runs of 49, 15 and 20 yards, giving
him 20 rushing TDs on the season, the third-highest seasonal total in KC history. It was Johnson’s second career game
with three rushing TDs. Johnson has 30 career rushing TDs. Johnson posted his ninth straight 100-yard rushing game,
extending the longest streak in Chiefs history and tying as the third-longest streak in NFL history. It was Johnson’s
10th 100-yard rushing game of the season, the highest seasonal total in KC annals. It marked the third game of the
season that Johnson topped the 100-yard barrier in the first half. His 13 career 100-yard games are the third-best
tally in Chiefs history. He had 21 total TDs on the season (20 rushing, 1 receiving), the third-highest total in KC
history. It was Johnson’s seventh consecutive game with a rushing TD, the third-longest string in franchise
annals.
Gonzalez Owns the Longest Receiving Streak in Chiefs History: TE Tony Gonzalez has caught
a pass in 84 consecutive games, breaking the previous mark of 83 games established by WR Stephone Paige. Gonzalez
finished the season with 78 receptions to tie for the fourth-best single-season total in Chiefs history.
QB Trent Green Notes: QB Trent Green registered his 2,000th career completion on a
four-yard pass to WR Dante Hall in the first quarter. Green now owns a perfect 12-0 record in regular season games at
Arrowhead played after December 1st. Green has 20,117 passing yards with KC to become only the second quarterback in
Chiefs history to ecplise the 20,000 passing yard plateau. Green finished the game with a 127.6 rating, his fifth game
of the season with a 100.0 rating or better and his 26th such game with the Chiefs. KC owns a 14-1 record at Arrowhead
when Green compiles a 100.0 passer rating or better. He had 344 passing yards vs. Cincinnati, his fourth 300-yard game
of the season and his 24th as a member of the Chiefs. Green finished the season with 4,014 passing yards, the
fourth-best single-season mark in team history. Green finished the season with a 90.1 passer rating, the fourth
consecutive year he’s posted a 90.0 rating or better. He is the only QB in the NFL with an active streak of four
90.0-rating seasons.
Kennison Registers Back-to-Back 1,000-Yard Seasons: WR Eddie Kennison became the second player in Chiefs history to register back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, joining WR Carlos Carson (’83-84). Kennison joined WRs Charlie Joiner, Irving Fryar, Don Maynard and J.T. Smith as the fifth WR in NFL history to record his first consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in his ninth and 10th NFL seasons or later. Kennison recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game and the 14th of his career.
Tynes’ Field Goal Marks: K Lawrence Tynes owns 44 made field goals, the fifth-best career total in Chiefs history. Tynes finished the season with 27 made field goals to tie for the third-highest seasonal total in team history.
Takeaway/Sack Stats: S Sammy Knight recorded his second INT of the season, the 37th of his career. CB Patrick Surtain registered his fourth INT of season and the 33rd of his career. The Chiefs are 29-3 (.906) at Arrowhead dating back to ‘95 when forcing two or more TDs. CB Benny Sapp now has 2.5 sacks on the season and for his career.
Chiefs Defensive Scoring Notes: The Chiefs held Cincinnati to three points, the fewest points scored by the Bengals since they suffered a 26-3 loss vs. Dallas (11/7/04). It marked the third time this season KC has allowed just 10 points or less. The Chiefs are now 38-0 at Arrowhead dating back to ‘90 when holding opponents to 10 points or less. Kansas City limited its last two opponents to a total of 10 points, the lowest total in consecutive games since the club allowed 10 points vs. Arizona (12/1/02) and vs. St. Louis (12/8/02). The Chiefs pitched a second-half shutout for the second consecutive week. KC has won 19 consecutive games at Arrowhead when holding opponents to 21 points or less, the fourth-longest active streak in the league.
More Defensive Notes: Kansas City’s defense permitted 161 net yards of total offense, the club’s lowest total since allowing 122 yards vs. Arizona (12/1/02). The Chiefs haven’t allowed an individual 100-yard rusher in 15 straight games at Arrowhead, the longest streak in Chiefs history since the AFL-NFL merger. That streak is tied with San Diego for the longest active streak in the league. The Chiefs held the Bengals to 37 team rushing yards, marking the 10th time this season KC has permitted fewer than 100 team rushing yards.
Chiefs Offensive Notes: Dating back to ‘95, KC is 26-4 (.867) when scoring 30 points or more at Arrowhead. Kansas City gained 537 total net yards of offense, tying for the ninth-best single-game total in Chiefs history and the most since gaining 590 yards vs. Indianapolis (10/31/04).
Single-Season Offensive Notes: Kansas City finished the season with 403 points, the sixth-highest single-season total in Chiefs history. The Chiefs had 347 first downs for the third-best seasonal mark in Kansas City annals. Kansas City finished with 6,192 total net yards, the second-highest total in Chiefs history. The Chiefs had 2,382 rushing yards, the fourth-best seasonal mark in team history. Kansas City’s 26 rushing TDs tied for the third-best mark in team history. The Chiefs posted 10 individual 100-yard rushing games in 2005, breaking the team record of nine established in 2004.
Consecutive Season TD Mark: Kansas City scored 57 touchdowns from 2004-05 for the third-best total over a two-year period.
