CHIEFS OFFICIALLY OPEN ARROWHEAD PARK

Aug 22, 2005, 4:00:02 PM

Chiefs Founder Lamar Hunt and the “Commissioner of Tailgating” Joe Cahn officially opened Arrowhead Park for business on Saturday afternoon prior to Kansas City’s preseason contest vs. Arizona (8/20). Cahn, who made the trek from his home base in New Orleans to attend the event, was the first patron to spend the evening at Arrowhead Park. In fact, Cahn actually arrived at Arrowhead Park on Friday afternoon spent that evening in “The JoeMobile,” a custom-outfitted RV designed specifically for tailgating.

A lifelong sports fan and longtime tailgating enthusiast, Cahn joined Hunt in an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Of course, in true tailgating fashion, Hunt and Cahn opted not to utilize a pair of scissors for the dedication of Arrowhead Park. Instead, “The Commissioner” wielded a piece of prized cutlery from his tailgating kit as the duo officially christened yet another tailgating destination for Chiefs fans. In appreciation of his efforts, Hunt presented Cahn with a “Lifetime Pass” to Arrowhead Park. After the ceremony, “The Commissioner” invited fellow fans to a tailgating spread in front of his rig before enjoying Saturday’s contest up-close-and-personal from the Arrowhead sidelines.

Cahn has already offered the Chiefs several suggestions on how to make Arrowhead Park even better for the upcoming season. In addition, he is also helping spread the word to fellow RV and football enthusiasts about the hottest new tailgating spot in Kansas City. And if there’s truly an expert on tailgating in America, it’s Cahn. In ‘96, he sold his business – the New Orleans School of Cooking – sold his house, bought a motor home and hit the road to explore what he calls “the new American community” - tailgate parties.

The nation’s only known professional tailgater, Cahn is now in his ninth season on the road. He has driven his JoeMobiles over 250,000 miles, visited hundreds of cities, has seen thousands of fans and has eaten his way through over 370 tailgate parties.
