ESTIMATED LENGTH OF DRAFT: 17 hours
The first three rounds will conclude on Saturday by approximately 9:00 PM (Central). In 2004, the first three rounds lasted a total of 10:17. The first round consumed 5:24, the second round consumed 2:47 and the third round consumed 1:56 minutes. The final four rounds will conclude on Sunday by approximately 5:00 PM (Central).

Based on the 2004 pace, the Chiefs 2005 first-day selections would be scheduled to fall around these times:

1st round - 15th overall 2:15-2:30 p.m.

3rd round - 99th overall 8:45 p.m.

BREAKDOWN OF 2005 CHIEFS DRAFT TRANSACTIONS:

Second: The Chiefs traded their second-round draft pick (46th overall) to Miami in the 2005 trade for CB Patrick Surtain.

Third: The Chiefs traded their third-round draft pick (77th overall) to Philadelphia in the 2004 trade for T John Welbourn. Kansas City was awarded a compensatory pick at the end of the third round (99th overall) in return for the loss of unrestricted free agents T John Tait and QB Jonathan Quinn to Chicago last season.

Fifth: The Chiefs received a fifth-round pick from Miami (138th overall) in the 2005 Patrick Surtain trade. Kansas City received a fifth-round pick from Detroit (147th overall) in the 2004 DT Junior Siavii trade. The Chiefs traded their fifth-round selection (150th overall) to Tennessee for DE Carlos Hall. Kansas City received Green Bay’s fifth-round pick (162nd overall) from the 2004 R-Kal Truluck trade, but subsequently traded that pick to Miami in the 2005 Patrick Surtain deal.

Sixth: The Chiefs obtained Green Bay’s sixth-round pick (199th overall) in the 2004 R-Kal Truluck trade.

Seventh: The Chiefs acquired Green Bay’s seventh-round pick (238th overall) in the 2003 CB Derrick Combs trade.

FIRST-ROUND DRAFT NOTES: The following teams have two first-round selections: Minnesota (7th and 18th overall), Washington (ninth and 25th overall), Dallas (11th and 20th) and San Diego (12th and 28th overall). Buffalo, Denver, the N.Y. Jets and the N.Y. Giants do not have a first-round pick. The league’s other 24 teams all have one first-round selection.

TOTAL NUMBER OF PLAYERS TO BE DRAFTED: 255 selections, including 32 compensatory selections.

COMPENSATORY PICKS: A total of 14 teams received 32 compensatory choices that were awarded to teams which suffered a net loss of certain quality unrestricted free agents last year. These 32 selections will supplement the 223 regular choices in the seven rounds. Compensatory selections cannot be traded. The Chiefs own a third-round (99th overall) compensatory pick in the 2005 NFL Draft for the loss of unrestricted free agents T John Tait and QB Jonathan Quinn to Chicago.

TIME LIMITS PER ROUND:

  • Round 1 (15 minutes for each selection)
  • Round 2 (10 minutes for each selection)
  • Rounds 3-7 (Five minutes for each selection)

TELEVISION:
ESPN/ESPN2 will televise the draft in its entirety.

On Saturday, ESPN will carry the draft from 11:00 AM (Central) to 4:30 PM (Central). ESPN2 will pick up coverage from 4:30 PM (Central) to the conclusion of the third round.

On Sunday, ESPN will be on the air from 10:00 AM (Central) to 5:00 PM (Central) or until the end of the draft.
