Chiefs Honor 2004 Community QB Award Winner

The Kansas City Chiefs honored Kenny Friesner, a volunteer with the Neighbor to Neighbor Ministries, as the winner
of the 2004 Kansas City Chiefs/NFL Community Quarterback Award. The honor was presented at the Arrowhead Club on
Tuesday, December 21 during a luncheon. This is the fifth year of this NFL program.

One first place winner and nine finalists were selected from a group of applicants who were nominated and each
organization to which they volunteer will receive a check for $1,000. As the first place winner, Neighbor to Neighbor
Ministries, a faith-based, not-for-profit ministry that reaches out to the poor and homeless populations of Kansas
City, will also receive a check for $10,000.
The nine finalists are Catherine Curtis, Old Town Spring (Project Area Committee); Terry Franz, Cars 4 Christmas,
Inc.; Joann Harper, The Heartland Book Bank; Roger Lambson, United Way of Wyandotte County; Don McClain, In As Much
Ministry; Steve Millin, Operation Breakthrough; Norman Sanders, De LaSalle Education Center; Ela Shacklett, Children’s
Center for the Visually Impaired; and Thomas D. Sheely, Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Along with the other 31 NFL teams’ winners, Mr. Friesner is eligible for the National NFL Community Quarterback
Award at-large winner, which will be announced later this year after being selected by a blue-ribbon panel appointed by
the NFL. NFL Charities will also make a $15,000 donation to the organization for which the national winner
volunteers.
Funded by NFL Charities, the NFL Community Quarterback Award recognizes community and youth volunteers who
demonstrate leadership, dedication and a commitment of bettering their communities. The nomination process is fulfilled
by charitable organizations or individuals who nominate their notable volunteers.
The Chiefs selected a committee made up of community leaders to review nominations for the Kansas City Chiefs
Community Quarterback Award.
NFL Charities, created in 1973, is a non-profit organization by the member clubs of the National Football League to
enable the clubs to collectively make grants to charitable and worthwhile causes on the national level. Since its
inception, NFL Charities has made more than $41 million in grant commitment to more than 250 different
organizations.
