Chiefs Agree to Three-Year Deals With Wesley and Moreau

JUN 6 (afternoon)--Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to three-year contracts with their third and fourth round draft choices, S Greg Wesley and RB Frank Moreau. No other terms of the contract were disclosed. Wesley and Moreau are the first two Chiefs 2000 draft choices to agree to terms.

Wesley (6-2, 202), joined the Chiefs as the 85th overall selection in the 2000 NFL Draft from Arkansas – Pine Bluff. The punishing safety saw duty in 33 games (22 starts) during his collegiate career, totaling 121 tackles (76 solo), nine tackles for loss, eight interceptions for 88 yards, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and 21 passes defensed. He was named the club’s special teams MVP by the coaching staff in ’97 after grabbing 20 special teams tackles, and was honored as a second team selection to the All-Southwestern Conference team in ’98.

A native of England, Arkansas, he worked at free safety for three seasons with the Golden Lions of Arkansas - Pine Bluff. As a senior at England High School in ‘95, Wesley was named to the Arkansas All-State basketball team. He did not originally enroll at Arkansas – Pine Bluff with the intention of playing football, but was discovered by as assistant football coach after he saw him dunk during an intramural basketball game in ’96. He then began his collegiate football career the following spring.

Moreau (6-0, 230), joins the Chiefs after finishing his collegiate career as the fifth all-time leading rusher in University of Louisville history with 2,599 yards. Playing in 37 career games for the Cardinals (28 starts), he carried the ball 499 times for 2,599 yards (5.2 average) with 27 touchdowns. His TD mark ranks second in the Louisville record books behind only Lenny Liles who has 35 ground scores. Moreau caught 54 passes for 369 yards (6.8 average), and finished his career with 11 100-yard rushing games.

A first team All-Conference USA selection as a senior in ’99, Moreau ranked fifth in the nation scoring 10.2 points per game average, finished eighth in rushing with a 128.9 yards per game average and was 12th in all-purpose yards with a 164.4 yards per game average. As a sophomore he tied a NCAA record shared by Corey Dillon (Washington), Howard Griffith (Illinois) and Dick Held (BYU) scoring four touchdowns all in the second quarter.

The Elizabethtown, Kentucky native was an honorable mention All-State selection as a senior at Central High School in Elizabethtown, Kentucky finishing his career with 2,385 rushing yards with a 7.4 yards per carry average.
